This 6 week course is an opportunity for those who work in the helping professions to learn how they may inadvertently cause harm to those they aspire to support. Through the lens of self-reflection participants will have the opportunity to begin the process of understanding how they have internalized the ideologies of the dominant culture and in turn function as agents of oppression.

The course will allow for a more intimate self-awareness, which is essential to being anti-racist and an ally to marginalized groups.

In addition a complementary 30 minute consultation with trainers is included up to

  • Understanding the roles of white supremacy, racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, power/privilege, decolonization, and intersectionality in the helping professions.

    • Identify the ways in which colonization, white supremacy, and implicit bias inform your work as a helping professional.

    • Analyze the ways in which upholding systems of oppression maintain the status quo in your life, the life of those you serve, and society.

    • Recognize how being self-aware is an essential tool in the work of helping professionals in dismantling systems of oppression.

  • This is not an intro level class. It is intended for those who have working knowledge of the tenets of privilege, power, and systemic oppression.
